چکیده
Abstract Focal therapies, including cryosurgery, thermal ablation, and irreversible electroporation (IRE) are widely used in the treatment of cancer other diseases, aimed at exposing cells to extreme physical conditions leading cell death. ablation outcomes extensively studied small animal preclinical models, such as mice; however, robust engineering characterization these treatments is largely lacking, due a large part lack control applying clinical devices (cm scale) mouse tumors (mm scale). To address this issue, miniaturized probes designed built for controlled application IRE their performance evaluated using ex vivo porcine liver tissue an MC‐38 tumor model. These experimental results compared simulated heat transfer (cryosurgery ablation) electrical models. Agreements quantities between measurement modeling shown all focal therapy cases. The outcome further correlated with growth delay. improves understanding energy dose create damage, therefore enables better understand studies predict optimize future procedures.

In vivo characterization and numerical simulation of prostate properties for non-thermal irreversible electroporation ablation.
BACKGROUND Irreversible electroporation (IRE) delivers brief electric pulses to attain non-thermal focal ablation that spares vasculature and other sensitive systems. It is a promising prostate cancer treatment due to sparing of the tissues associated with morbidity risk from conventional therapies. IRE effects depend on electric field strength and tissue properties. These characteristics are o...

Background: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a novel tumor ablation technique. IRE is associated with high electrical fields and is often reported in conjunction with thermal damage caused by Joule heating. For good response to surgery it is crucial to produce minimum thermal damage in both tumoral and healthy tissues named Non-Thermal Irreversible Electroporation(NTIRE). Non-thermal irrev...
متن کاملTumor Ablation with Irreversible Electroporation
We report the first successful use of irreversible electroporation for the minimally invasive treatment of aggressive cutaneous tumors implanted in mice. Irreversible electroporation is a newly developed non-thermal tissue ablation technique in which certain short duration electrical fields are used to permanently permeabilize the cell membrane, presumably through the formation of nanoscale def...

متن کاملHigh-frequency irreversible electroporation (H-FIRE) for non-thermal ablation without muscle contraction
BACKGROUND Therapeutic irreversible electroporation (IRE) is an emerging technology for the non-thermal ablation of tumors. The technique involves delivering a series of unipolar electric pulses to permanently destabilize the plasma membrane of cancer cells through an increase in transmembrane potential, which leads to the development of a tissue lesion. Clinically, IRE requires the administrat...
